Quadkids Finals

Wednesday, May 24th, 2017

A team from the Hawks took part in the Quadkids Finals at Kingshill School. Everyone performed with excellent levels of enthusiasm and collaboration knowing that every result would add more points to the team score. They were also representing the rest of the class as well as the whole school as they were the team who had qualified from the previous event. The whole team should be very proud of their efforts! A huge thank you to Mrs Brown from SWR for giving up her time to take them and Mrs Amos for helping.

The Hawks and Owls all took part in the annual athletics competition against other local schools. Everyone showed superb levels of determination and perseverance in their performances. It was really pleasing to see the collaboration, respect and friendship the children demonstrated throughout the event. Everyone should be very proud of their efforts and are looking forward to see the results to find out if they have qualified for Area Sports.

Congratulations Forest Green Rovers!!!!!!!!!!

After a tense but ultimately successful trip to Wembley, read Eddy’s final match report of the season charting FGR’s glorious rise into the football league.

Forest Green Rovers vs. Tranmere Rovers

On the 14th May 2017 Forest Green Rovers played Tranmere Rovers at Wembley for the last promotion place into League 2. To get to this world famous stadium, FGR beat Dagenham and Redbridge 3-1 on aggregate, while Tranmere played Aldershot Town and won 5-2 over both legs.

To travel to this stadium, I went on a long coach journey with lots of other ambassadors. It was roughly a 3 and a 1/2 hour trip there with a 25 minute stop, but it was worth it when I saw Wembley’s famous arch.

To begin with, the game could go anywhere, with continuous attacks and counter-attacks from both teams until Forest Green’s Kaiyne Woolery tucked in a bottom corner goal after 11 minutes of play. Tranmere didn’t give up though. 10 minutes later Tranmere equalized through Connor Jennings who smacked the ball too high for Sam Russell’s reach. Again, numerous attacks were invalidly taken, one of which involved Scott Davies-Tranmere’s ‘keeper- diving rapidly to his right to prevent a FGR lead. Finally, all  that running paid off for FGR after a 42nd minute goal by Christian Doidge and a 44th minute goal, again from Woolery, following an interception just outside the box.

Like the first half , the ball was up and down the pitch, continuously changing ends. One of the most impressive runs was when Forest Green’s Emmanuel Monthe single-handedly ran from before the half-way line to near the Tranmere box, but he was tackled before he could do any harm. The game was so action packed, I missed the odd counter-attack whist I was scribbling notes down. Luckily, Tranmere couldn’t catch us up so we won, becoming the first ever village club to be in the football league!

“ This was even better than watching Spurs miss out on the Premier League title!” said my dad.

Forest Green Rovers are now an official football league club and the New Lawn is an official football league ground! We will  definitely need the new stadium now!

The adventure continues…

Playoff Excitement!

Thursday, May 11th, 2017

In the build up to the National League Playoff Final this weekend, our FGR Ambassadors and other Forest Green fans were interviewed by BBC Radio Gloucestershire for the breakfast show. They sang some of their favourite chants and then gave very informed views on the outcome on the match. Look out for Eddy’s match report next week!

The Hawks all took part in a fabulous Quadkids event at SWR School which involved a 400m race, a 50m race, a howler throw and a standing long jump. Two teams of athletes took part and the rest of the class took the important roles of organisers and media team. Everyone had a really enjoyable afternoon and the whole event was really well organised by Mrs Brown and her team of Sports Leaders. Keep a look out for Lily’s full report!
